From 1960 through 1962 Charlotte was privileged to teach second grade at Simsboro. She says she will always remember the children she taught and the wonderful parents of those children.

(The following is quoted from the Louisiana Volunteer Activists 34th Annual Awards Presentation 2005)

“We highlight this activist for her work with social service agencies and public educational groups. She has served Family Services of Greater Baton Rouge as a member of their board since 1999. She was instrumental in developing and implementing a community-wide event which fit its mission, thus generating revenue to supplement direct services for almost 14,000 children and families each year. This event, "Celebrate the Family", an effort that honors four outstanding families each year, has resulted in almost $142,000 in revenues during Charlotte's six-year board tenure. Because of her leadership and the efforts of others, the agency has not only maintained its services but also expanded them to include HIV/AIDS assistance.

Charlotte's other affiliations center on education boards such as Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) and the Board of Private Colleges & Universities. She served on VIPS' Annual Breakfast Committee for the first “We Believe in Children Showcase” involving faith congregations. At University Baptist Church, Charlotte serves on the Highland School Council, securing funds and working with the annual “Christmas Book for Every Child” for VIPS. She is a Deacon, a member of the Finance and Personnel Committees, and coordinates the Wednesday Night Suppers for college students.

Charlotte's unique gifts include mentoring young women and encouraging them to investigate professional careers. Recently, she "adopted" a young girl from India who had health care problems and needed assistance to further her education. In addition, Governor Blanco appointed Charlotte to the Governor's Mansion Foundation Board to utilize her fund raising skills to help restore the "Peoples Home". Her nominator emphasized that she has uncanny abilities to utilize organization skills and the tenacity to get others involved in the project she undertakes.”
