A continuing bright spot at Simshoro High School this year is the Boys’ Basketball Team coached by Rick Huckabay.

Coach Huckabay was hired in the late summer, which didn't give the team much time to know him or his philosophy about basketball. The previous team had graduated seven seniors, leaving the Tiger squad with many inexperienced players, but the boys have proven themselves to be what Coach Huckabay calls "over-achievers" — already winning 20 games and looking at the possibility of play beyond the district level.

Assisting Coach Huckabay with the Tigers is Coach Willie Simmons. Leading the team are its three seniors, Dennis Cooper, Ardonous Robinson, and Andre Patton. Rounding out the Tiger squad are Josh Ogunyemi (Junior), Gavin Mitchell, Bennie Robinson, Tommy Malone, and Dylan Castaneda (Sophomores). Damian Ford (Freshman), and Antwon Baker, Marcellas Anderson, Dariunte Jenkins (8th graders). Daniel Ogunyemi and Demontre Washington serve as Managers.

According to Coach Huckabay, “The boys are like sponges — they try to soak in every word I say to them. They are gentlemen; they like each other and truly want Simsboro High School to be the best. They are quicker than any team I have ever coached.”

Coach Huckabay would like to thank the Alumni Club and the entire Simsboro Community for its warm welcome and its desire to support his decisions on how to build the best Tiger program aver. Stay tuned for playoff information for both boys and girls teams!
